I'll have a P please, Bob

Suangporn Jaturaphut as Dau in Paul Spurrier's P

Now I like films. And I especially like horror films and Asian films. I also like Thailand, its people and its culture, and I try and spend a few weeks over there every year. So news of a brand new horror movie set in Thailand is music to my ears.

The film is called P (the Thai word pee / phii means "ghost") and follows village girl Dau who's been schooled in the ways of magic by her grandmother. When her grandmother becomes ill she heads to the bright lights of Bangkok to find work in a go-go bar in order to earn money for her family, and is soon taken under the wing of the experienced Pookie. Dau starts to use her magic skills to help her settle into her new environment but her careless misuse of these powers summons the monster within, hungry for human meat...

P is the first Thai language movie to be filmed by a westerner, British director Paul Spurrier, and as such had to be filmed outside the Thai studio system. The film is currently touring the festival circuit and Paul is hopeful for a UK DVD release later in the year. For more information check out the website at www.phii.co.uk
