Wei Hui at Jubilee Library

Controversial Chinese author Wei Hui made her first visit to Brighton on Tuesday night as part of a rare whistle-stop tour of the UK to promote her latest novel, Marrying Buddha. She read excerpts from her book and was then interviewed by local author Peter Gutteridge about her life, influences and her portrayal as the "bad girl" of the Chinese literary scene. The evening finished with a Q&A session and book signing. A very open and revealing interviewee, Wei Hui came across as a fiercely independent woman, someone full of spirit and confidence in her own beliefs and choices in life.
